Quesedillas. Also, I need measuring cups.

Last night I made the best quesedillas! Recipe below. Although it should be noted that I need measuring cups. I had to eyeball everything since I couldn't find any of my cups. They have vanished. Much like socks seem to do.

I did not take photos of the cooking process but really, it is easy. If you can't do this without a photo you shouldn't be allowed to turn on a stove. :)

Corn & Black Bean Quesedillas
2t oil
3 T chopped onion (didn't have fresh so I used the dehydrated flake stuff)
1 can black beans, drained and rinsed
1 can sweet corn, drained
1 T brown sugar
1/4 C. salsa
1/4 t. red pepper flakes
2 T butter or more
8 flour tortillas
1.5 C shredded cheese (monterey jack, taco blend, or Mexican blend)

Heat oil over medium heat, add onion. Cook till onion turns that nice brown color. Then stir in corn and beans, brown sugar, red pepper flakes and salsa. Cook till heated through.

In separate skillet, melt 2 t butter. place tortilla in and sprinkle with cheese. Spoon some bean mix on top. Place another tortilla on top. Cook on both sides until golden brown.

Serve with sour cream and more salsa on the side.

Painting my kitchen!

So I just dropped a hundred bucks at Ace Hardware. I know in the world of home renovations and design, $100 is not a lot. But to us? Ouch. It is a splurge.

We are painting the kitchen! Correction, my father-in-law is painting OUR kitchen. He is a much better painter than my husband or I.

I will get photos once it is done. For now, are you curious about the colors?

We went with Benjamin Moore Shaker Beige and a little accent of Lenox Tan. The kitchen right now is "builder white". :)

Here is a photo I found online that shows Shaker Beige:benjamin moore paint, benjamin moore, shaker beige, shaker, brown, tan, taupe, neutral
from Bossy Color. She is the queen!

And here is the slightly darker, Lenox Tan that is accenting around the pantry ( it will also be the color of our entryway in the near future)benjamin moore, lenox tan, lennox tan, paint, brown living room, tan, beige, taupefound photo here

I am excited to get some color on the walls, the neutral kitchen will complement my pale blue and dark brown living room. I think I will accent with bright colored dishes. What do you think?
Do you have any experience with these paint colors?

Where I'm at (a bloggy roundup)-Sewing edition

I want to share with you guys what blogs I've been hanging out at over the last couple days.
First of all, Diary of a Quilter just posted this.

I love love love it! She also blogs at Moda Bake Shop and you can go here to see the tutorial on how to make it. And then you can make one and send it to me. *crosses fingers*

Then of course The Intrepid Thread always has something cool.

I love the grays here in her pillow top!

Now brace yourself for this next one. Are you sitting down?
Well are you?
It is adorable.
It also involves paper piecing which I know nothing about and apparently requires you to have the ability to sew a straight line. Which of course rules me out. But it is way too cute not to share.

POP BOTTLES! I know! "It is adorable" you say. "I told you so!" I say. :) This is featured over on Sew We Quilt today.

go here to get directions on how to make one. And then send it to me. *

*What? It can't hurt to ask.

Friday Favorites (tweets)

OccupyWallStreet has been getting a lot of attention lately, but a lesser known grass roots movement has begun.

Ladies & Gentlemen, I introduce you to OccupySesameStreet:

Here are some of the best tweets of the week:

@PaulPoteet says: "I'm spending the day protesting big companies exploiting puppets for money. "

@TravoFree has two gems: "Does Elmo really need more tax breaks to pay for his private jets and tickle sessions? "

"Cookie Monster continues to demand that Dora the Explorer be deported.
@eeleyesee proclaims: "When there are people living in trash cans, it's time to take a stand: "

And finally, @h0mfr0g gives me the LOLs with, "
In a democracy, it's your vote that counts. On Sesame Street, it's your Count that votes. Ah-ah-ah! #occupysesamestreet "

If you want to follow my babbling of various topics on twitter, I am here.

Llama Llama Red Pajama

<Jumpstart's Read for the Record

Llama Llama Mad At Mama is one of the cutest, funniest books for kids that I have ever read. Have you had a chance to read it? Llama goes to the grocery store with Mama and does not have a good time! Little kids can really relate to it. (And so can every mom who has ever had a cranky child ruin her trip to Shop-A-Rama).

On October 6th, 2 million people have pledged to read Llama Llama Red Pajama! Wanna join us? You can read the book online if you don't have it already!

Its a national campaign that mobilizes adults and children to close the early education achievement gap by setting a reading world record.

This annual campaign allows Americans to demand that all children receive the quality early education they deserve. On October 6, 2011, more than 2 million voices will call for an end to America’s early education achievement gap by reading Llama Llama Red Pajama by Anna Dewdney – setting a world record in the process!

Get involved at www.readfortherecord.org to help Jumpstart close the early education achievement gap:

1. Pledge to Read: Submit your official pledge and help us reach more than 2.1 MILLION children.
2. Spread the Word: Use our simple tools to educate your friends and family about America’s early education achievement gap and invite them to read.

For more information visit www.readfortherecord.org

It is all free, just READ this Thursday. Read to your kid, your neighbor, your classroom, your neighborhood kids, your grandkids...someone!
