Friday Funnies--teeth

This week's funnies are all teeth related: in honor of the fact that today I'm having my wisdom tooth removed.

6 Children's Book Your 3 Year Old Needs

Books, specifically children's books, are my soft spot.  I simply can't resist them.  Some are better than others, but luckily for us, we live in a time when there are a lot of quality children's books available.

With holidays coming (I think most of my readers celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, or Ramadan), this list might help you get a gift idea for the preschoolers in your life.

Here are six books that every 3 year old needs to own:

1. Owen, by Kevin Henkes

Owen is a sweet little mouse with a very special blanket.  Owen is getting older and can't take the blanket everywhere like he used to...so what will happen to it?
This book is easy for parents to read (not four billion pages long) with a sweet message of growing up.

2. We're Going on a Bear Hunt, by Michael Rosen

Didn't we all do this chant at Girl Scout camp?  In board-book format, the book lends itself to sitting together, child on your lap, and following this family's trek.  Fun rhyme and repetitive text hold the attention of young children.

3. The Monster at the end of This Book
Don't turn the page!  What happens when we get to the MONSTER in the back? Adorable book featuring Sesame Street favorites and fun, fast-paced text.


4. If You Give A Mouse A Cookie, by Laura Numeroff

Cause/Effect, sequencing, an adorable little mouse...this book has it all!

5.  Llama Llama Mad at Mama, by Anna Dewdney

Any book in the Llama series is fantastic. This was the first Llama book that I read and the illustrations were cracking me up!  SO funny and any mom and any child can relate to the story!  An absolute must for your bookshelf!

6. Blue Hat Green Hat, by Sandra Boynton

Boynton is a best-selling children's author.  I chose this particular book of hers for three year olds because the text is simple, it reinforces colors, and children can memorize the book and think they are "reading" it...adding to their reading confidence.  The book is comical (silly duck always puts his clothes on wrong. Socks don't go on your duck bill!).  Board book format makes it durable!
